Modern Garage Door Keeps Vintage Cars Safe
This incredible property is situated in the village of Hazlemere, Buckinghamshire. It’s an enviable family home, boasting large outdoor spaces and a prime location within walking distance of the beautiful Bucks countryside.
Background
Property owner Richard Hotston loves classic cars and has three garages on the grounds devoted to his passion. All the garages are distinct from the main house and large in their own right. What’s more, opening them up reveals vintage cars from years gone by , all lovingly restored by Richard.
Like the classic motors behind it, one of the garage doors had reached an advanced age and was due for an upgrade.
Richard explained: “Our old, wooden up and over door (probably 40+ years old) was getting very heavy and had become a poor fit. It jammed frequently on the guides and I was concerned that it might eventually collapse on my cars.”
“It was definitely time for a replacement garage door and SWR was recommended by a good friend.”
The customer gave us a call to discuss his options. He preferred an electric folding door, as opposed to the previous type, in order to maximise space within the garage and eliminate the risk of collapse. We made some recommendations and suggested that Richard come to our showroom in Hemel Hempstead to view our product range in person.
The Products
Richard saw a few examples of doors at the showroom, but it was clear the Hörmann RollMatic was best suited to his requirements. This roller shutter type goes directly up into the garage’s ceiling area to leave no external or internal overhang.
The RollMatic door is also made of high-quality aluminium, which is resistant to corrosion. Although the customer liked the look of wooden doors, the RollMatic is longer lasting and comes in a range of colours. For that reason, Richard chose a powder-coated brown finish to mimic the look of wood whilst still maintaining the benefits of an aluminium garage door.
After we found the best product, our surveyor Darren visited the customer’s property to ensure the structure could properly support a RollMatic door. The original structure was built with an up and over in mind and the unique style of a roller shutter may not be a good fit. Fortunately, it was okay and a price was agreed upon.
The Installation
The customer wanted the garage’s piers left as they were, so the new door was back fixed to maintain full opening width. Remote operation comes as standard on a RollMatic and the unit is installed outside the sectional cladding for easy maintenance. Two button remote controls are also included with the door.
The old door was removed and the new one fitted in the same day. Overall, Richard was delighted with both the door and service.
He said: “The door is well made, quiet and simple in operation. Much quieter than the two Securoglide doors I have fitted to my other garage.
“The installation team were excellent – efficient, clean and tidy. I’d be extremely likely to recommend SWR to friends and family.”
